I first met Jillian many years ago when I stumbled across one of her fitness classes. I was immediately inspired to keep showing up whenever she was teaching. Jillian brings years of knowledge and training to classes. She never stops trying to better herself, in order to pass this along to her clients. The real reason I have followed Jillian to her home at Compass is Jillian! She is beautiful inside and out and brings that warmth and love with her to every class. Do not be fooled! She will absolutely kick your butt into gear, but she will be wearing that amazing smile the entire time I started doing personal training with Jillian during the pandemic and it is one of the things that I look forward to the most every week. She forces me out of my comfort zone, but somehow tricks me into thinking it is fun! Any day that I wake up and know I will be training or in class with Jillian is automatically a great day.

Recently I have had the privilege of working with Jillian on nutrition and private workout sessions. She is kicking my butt... in the best way! Every time she came back from a workout/training session she was grinning from ear to ear, and told me how challenging and fun the training sessions were. We both love a good sweaty workout session, so…obviously, I had to check it out. In a few weeks I was already seeing improvement in areas where, before, I was having minor injuries or hitting stumbling blocks. Jillian helped transform the way I think about food, and I am confident this will have a life changing impact on my health. I have had chronic blood sugar and digestion issues for so long following many years of stress, strict dieting, and over exercising. I always thought I was eating "healthy" and exercising they way I should be. I had come to terms that my digestion and my way of life was normal. I had no idea how good I could feel until I worked with Jillian on my nutrition and my mindset around what healthy really meant. Within one week, I felt a major shift in energy, sleep, mood, hunger, and digestion. I loved working with Jillian. She created an individualized plan that was specific to my needs and goals. She was patient and encouraging with the perfect amount of push. She dove into all aspects of my nutrition which is what is required to make the difference. Jillian is always checking in, sending good food tips and recipes, and is available to answer my questions. To say that this experience has changed my life forever is an understatement. I have no intentions on making this a temporary fix which is another reason working with Jillian has been so great. This is not a traditional diet or "diet" at all. This is a way of life that will change your health for the long haul.

For as long as I can remember I’ve had “a sweet tooth.” I have consistently had a great exercise routine (group fitness classes about 4 times per week), so I felt like I could treat myself to desserts and eating whatever my body wanted. While balancing life with 2 kids, a husband who is a firefighter, jobs in mental health and non-profit leadership, and volunteer work, I started to notice some acid reflux. I thought it was stress, but since knowing Jillian from the gym, I thought I would see if there was something nutritionally I could do to help rather than committing to taking medication the rest of my life. I had no idea the level of transformation which would result from our work together! I learned so much about my body, food as medicine and how to make life choices which align with my goal of holistic health and living a long life. My acid reflux went away almost immediately, my mood is more stable, I have more energy, and am able to push myself more at the gym. Even several months after finishing my work with Jillian, my husband and I regularly reflect on how much she has revolutionized our family’s health. We are forever grateful for the impact Jillian has had on our lives!

Many of us have that health issue we have normalized over the years, particularly those with a cute name like Hangry. For me, it was indeed the blood sugar crashes that were so routine I could predict my “witching hour” each day. It was through personal training, then friendship, then nutritional therapy with Jillian that I finally asked, “Is this blood sugar regulation something I could work on through diet? Was it not just genetics or just being a woman as doctors loved to say as a teen?” My situation felt mysterious and nuanced - I had been eating a strict whole food diet with no gluten, no refined sugar, and heavily veggie focused meals for many years. I am eating as healthy as I can, I thought. Working together with Jillian, I discovered the importance of diverse macros, and not just color on my plate, what those macros and meal must haves are for me, and a metabolic awareness and reintegration with my body that has largely eliminated the crashes and re-established normal hunger cues. Goodbye Hangry. Your T-shirts and mugs are cute but your time in my life has passed.
